This April, Subaru of America debuted a 2015 WRX STI sedan prepared in the Rallycross Supercar trim at the New York International Auto Show. The vehicle was prepared by Vermont SportsCar and will be entered in the RedBull Global Rallycross championship this fall, since it will not be ready for the start of the season on May 18th.
The 2015 WRX STI has a custom widebody, an STI wing integrated with carbon fiber aerodynamic enhancements, and a classic rally car-style roof ventilation scoop. It also features a 600HP turbocharged Subaru boxer engine connected to a sequential gearbox with Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel drive. The vehicle is equipped with advanced rally-spec suspension and rides on Method Race Wheels, wrapped with the new Yokohama GRC spec competition line. Instead of Subaru’s traditional rally blue, it features a light blue and grey color combination with white splotches.
The 2015 Rallycross STI was a joint project between Subaru of America, RedBull Global Rallycross Championship, and NBC. It was recently announced that NBC Sports Group will be RedBull Global Rallycross Championship’s television partner. Nine out of ten rounds of the RedBull Global Rallycross Championship will air on NBC. Additionally, NBCSN will be airing encore presentations and the Rally America Championship, which Subaru has won the title in seven of the last eight years.
The first round of the Redbull Global Rallycross will take place in Barbados on May 18th, and will be aired on May 24th on NBC at 1:00 pm EST. Subaru drivers Buckey Lasek and Sverre Isachsen will be driving the 2014 WRX STI for the beginning of the season, and will switch to the 2015 WRX STI later this year. Their Subaru teammates, David Higgins and Travis Pastrana, compete in the Rally America championship, but it is rumored that the two may also enter a few races in the RedBull Global Rallycross Championship later in the season.
