The year of 2013 marked the fourth consecutive year that Subaru was recognized by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) as the only manufacturer with a top safety pick winner for all models.  The Subaru EyeSight® System, which features Pre-Collision Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Throttle Management, and Lane Departure and Sway Warning, has undoubtedly helped earn this accomplishment in safety.

Pre-Collision Braking

When a driver suddenly hits the breaks or cuts someone off, the EyeSight® system is there to help.  The EyeSight® system monitors the vehicles driving in front of the car, and will alert the driver and warn them of the potential collision.  If the driver does not brake or take any action after this warning, the car will automatically apply the brakes.

Adaptive Cruise Control

Another feature related to EyeSight® is Adaptive Cruise Control.  This is enabled by two cameras, which are mounted on the rearview mirrors.  These two cameras monitor traffic and react to conditions before the driver does.  This optimizes Cruise Control, since the EyeSight® system helps the car adjust its the speed accordingly, even in situations such as stop and go highway traffic.

Lane Departure and Sway Warning

The EyeSight® system is able detect the vehicle’s space in the lane.  The system pays attention to lane markers, and will alert the driver if he or she accidentally drifts to the edge of their lane and into another.  This feature is referred to as Lane Departure and Sway Warning.

Pre-Collision Throttle Management

Lastly, EyeSight® assists in Pre-Collision Throttle Management. The system senses obstacles in front of the driver, and if the driver is accelerating when they should not be, the system will automatically reduce the amount of available power.  This will help the driver avoid accelerating into any objects.

The Subaru EyeSight® system allows drivers to feel more confident and safe knowing that this technology is helping to moderate their safety, whether their eyes are on the road or not. EyeSight® is currently available on select 2014 Subaru Forester, Legacy, and Outback models.

Which one of these four features do you think is most helpful?
